Current status
Deficit Compass participates in the Amazon Associates Program. The resource library covers food scales, weight scales, body-composition scales, meal-prep containers, and calorie-calculation books. Each dedicated category guide contains five model- or edition-specific Amazon search links after original merits, tradeoffs, selection criteria, and manufacturer or publisher sources. The Calorie Planning Tools foundation guide contains no direct retailer links. These pages do not display Amazon customer ratings, prices, availability, copied review text, or paid placements.
How affiliate links work
If a reader chooses to buy through an eligible link, Deficit Compass may receive a commission at no additional cost to the reader. The commercial relationship is disclosed clearly and conspicuously beside the recommendation, not buried only in this policy.
The required Amazon disclosure is displayed prominently where applicable: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” Read Amazon’s operating agreement.
What can be recommended
Commercial resources must have a clear connection to a voluntary next step that does not change the calculator’s answer: for example, a basic food scale, a body-weight scale, or a simple meal-prep tool. We will not use affiliate links to sell products as necessary for weight loss, medical treatment, appetite control, or a “better” calorie target.
Each product page must state why the item was included, what the useful criteria are, who might not need it, and whether the page includes active commercial links.
How products are selected
Usefulness for the stated task before commission rate.
Criteria a reader can verify in current manufacturer documentation.
Clear limits, alternatives, reasons not to buy, and an explicit hands-on testing status.
No invented testing, Amazon customer ratings, copied marketplace descriptions, outcomes, or medical endorsements.
Direct product links separated from calculator fields, calorie targets, safety warnings, and research conclusions.
Product images sourced from the cited manufacturer, publisher, official distributor, or a trusted library record; each image is stored locally and attributed beside the recommendation. Amazon catalog images are not copied or scraped.
Disclosure and accuracy
A label such as “affiliate link” alone is not sufficient for a reader to understand a commission relationship. The FTC says the relationship should be clear and conspicuous and close to the recommendation. Read the FTC guidance.
Retailer availability, pricing, warranty terms, and commissions can change. Deficit Compass will not state prices, discounts, or availability unless those facts are checked and maintained under the applicable program rules.
